3 Easy Ways to Give Your Smile a Spring Cleaning This Year

When you hear the words “spring cleaning,” you might think about your attic that needs cleaning, your garage that needs organizing, or some other home improvement project that you’ve been putting off. However, did you know that springtime is also the perfect time to give your teeth a cleaning? Here’s why you shouldn’t hesitate to see your dentist this time of year for one of your routine checkups and cleanings, along with a few other ways to spruce up your smile!

1. Routine Preventive Care Is the Secret to a Healthy Smile

Your dentist is your greatest ally in the ongoing battle against cavities and other oral health issues. Visiting them twice a year allows them to regularly inspect your smile and ensure there are no hidden issues wreaking havoc. Plus, they’ll also perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to ensure that all harmful bacteria and plaque are removed. Plus, if you schedule one of these biannual visits early on in the spring, you’ll have plenty of time to ensure that you return before the year’s end!

2. Update Your At-Home Hygiene Routine

If you haven’t replaced your toothbrush in three months or longer, it’s time for a new one – and if you want to liven things up, consider an electric toothbrush if you’ve been using a manual one! Either way, just be sure to use the brush twice each day, along with dental floss, to ensure your mouth is in tip-top shape when you’re away from your dentist. Maybe a new type of toothpaste, or new form of floss, could also contribute to better hygiene habits; whatever it takes, be sure you continue to find the time to care for your smile daily.

3. Clean Your Toothbrush Holder & Bathroom

When was the last time you cleaned out your toothbrush holder or gave your bathroom a deep cleaning? Hopefully, it was within recent memory, but either way, these habits are good ways to protect your oral health. The container you keep your toothbrush in is exposed to all the same germs and bacteria as your other bathroom surfaces – and it can all be transferred to your toothbrush! Take your brush out and thoroughly warm the container in warm soapy water before wiping it down; you can also run it through the dishwasher. While you’re at it, it doesn’t hurt to give your whole bathroom a deep cleaning, too!
